Individual, couple and family therapy – special needs

Dr. Decia Dixon is a licensed psychologist and nationally certified school psychologist specializing in children, adolescents and families. Dr. Dixon has had extensive training in childhood behavioral and emotional problems since 2004. Dr. Dixon specializes in work with children and adolescents ranging from 2-21, with a primary focus on early childhood intervention treatment and assessment. Dr. Dixon believes in the application of the ecological model, meaning that she actively inquires about the systems which impact the child — family, peers, school, community and any other system that is relevant to the child’s functioning. She has specialized training in the school setting as a former school psychologist and is able to assist families of children with special needs to understand the special education process, and can provide feedback regarding special education eligibility criteria and special education placement in the least restrictive environment. Additionally, Dr. Dixon has an extensive professional background in the area of Response to Intervention (RtI) in the schools and has presented locally and nationally about the implementation of this process.
