Special Needs Wills, Trusts and Estates

You must plan carefully if you want to leave money or property to a loved one with a disability. The use of Special Needs estate planning will protect your disabled child’s eligibility for important and essential public benefits. DJ Jeyarum will explain how to set up a special needs trust to protect your loved one’s ability to receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid benefits.

Your IEP Rights

Presenter: Christy Calbos

Learn the basics about your special needs child’s rights related to an IEP, 504 plan, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) guarantees you some important things in this process. What does the law allow you to do? Learn how to protect your loved one and help ensure they receive the support they need.

Understanding Guardianships and the Alternatives

Presenter:  Lillis Brown

As a child with special needs nears his or her 18th birthday, parents often wonder whether they should establish a guardianship for their child. Until then, parents have the legal authority to make decisions (medical, financial, etc.) for their child. What happens after that and what should you do to prepare for it?

This conference is free, but registration is required to ensure adequate materials, meals and child care resources.  You may print the form here or use the online form here.

Please complete your registration no later than October 29, 2016.
